Self-portrait in watercolour, Am I allowed to do that?

I was working on this towards a portrait award competition. But today I did realised that I could not submit my work, because it is made with watercolours, pencil and pen. I feel super disappointed and unprofessional. But come on, it is only a real portrait or painting, if it is made in oil, acrylic or tempera? Well, maybe this my image does not counts as a portrait at all, anyway!

Any comments on that?
